Edward's Secret Strength

Blog site Mass Eyes and Ears has a good Democratic primary calendar history break down. Despite the super-primary which can hobble more-cash starved candidates, there is still hope that the uniquely progressive candidacy of Sen. John Edwards could make a break-through.

Edwards is alternatively tied or leading in Iowa, and a close 2nd in South Carolina in the last poll taken there. A victory in either of those two states, or a strong 2nd would give him a big surge.
The problem is he would need lots of money to take advantage of this, being that he would have only two-weeks to campaign in nearly twenty states, including New York and California. But according to Thursday's Politico Edwards might be sitting on a more impressive fundraising operation that he lets on.

"Is John Edwards playing possum to hide the strength of his fundraising operation?

That's the betting inside Democratic political circles as the overheated 2008 presidential primary races toward its first critical deadline: the March 31 financial disclosure reports"

There's a reason Republicans keep going after trial lawyers.

"Edwards' donor base is flush, and his fevered fundraising pace is rattling opponent camps. During one event in January at an Alabama law firm, Edwards -- a former trial lawyer -- raised nearly $300,000. In February alone, he traveled to 22 cities in 28 days, sometimes racing to multiple fundraising events in a single day."
