Degeneration of Conservative Discourse

Right-wing "political commentator" Ann Coulter seems to be really striving for attention-good or bad- in a big way, and she does not seem to care if it drags down her political cause with her. At Friday's American Conservative Union's Political Action Conference Coulter dropped a f-bomb (hint: rhymes with maggot) when referring to Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards. You can watch the train wreck here.

Beats me why she decided to refer to Sen. Edwards this way. She's called President Clinton one too. Maybe raising the minimum wage and walking picket lines is at the top of the homosexual agenda. If you would like to promote this agenda more actively please don't forget to donate here.

That she goes out of her way to be outrageous (and offensive and generally creepy) to get media attention is obvious. What is not is why conservatives continue to actively invite her to speak at their events like she is some kind of serious political thinker. Yes, she upsets the left. Racial slurs, threats of terrorism at media outlets she disapproves of, and insulting 9/11 widows has a tendency to do that. I also find it manages to piss off those in the center and moderate right also, not too mention most folks with some level of decency.

Audience members not only did not boo her off the stage after her comment, she received scattered applause. Fifty years ago the right had William Buckley as their radical spokesperson; now they have an unfunny Sarah Silverman whose level of discourse remains around the level of a 14-year old Rush Limbaugh listener.

At least some conservatives are publicy getting fed up with her.
